I want to start by reminding you all – I am not a doctor. This is based on my experience and what I have learned in this journey. So please remember – talk to your medical team.
Now – how did I get started? Looking at this picture with my best friend was a start.
In August 2014, I went in for a routine OBGYN exam and my mammogram. Both came back with “troubling” looking results. Thankfully both turned out fine in the end but for 4 months there was pure panic in the household. And I fully admit – all the panic was on my part. My husband does an amazing job of keeping calm while I do the freaking out. During the many treatments and procedures, my doctors reminded me that my weight was not helping me as I get older. I had been successful in losing weight before so I was going to try it again.
During this time, I would look in the mirror and see an unbelievably unhealthy person.
So, I was really researching successful weight loss solutions. The one that kept coming up was bariatric surgery. Now – I will say this, the research became a daunting task. If you are here in your journey, try not to get too discouraged.- I promise it will be worth it.
Based on my primary care support team, I explored local bariatric surgeons. This when my relations with Dr. Jossart in San Francisco began. Now, here is a part that always confused me… my insurance would not cover weight management but they would cover surgery. Where is the logic in that? Since I really did not want surgery, I explored two weight management programs. Once called JumpStart and one hospital supervisor from USCF. So I tried with weight management for several months. I am proud to say I am epic fail in terms of weight management. Lucky me. Well – this lead me back to the Bariatric program.
And then my journey begins.
